Voter registration to resume Oct. 14 during One-Stop Voting

    The Beaufort County Board of Elections closed its books today on voter registration, but will reopen them at select times and locations during the One-Stop Absentee Voting period, which runs from Oct. 14 to Oct. 30. Those who register during One-Stop Voting must also vote during this timeframe, and cannot wait to vote on the Nov. 2 Election Day. Concurrently, in-person registration is not permitted on the Nov. 2 Election Day.

    Between Oct. 14 and Oct. 30, any voter can take advantage of the convenience provided by One-Stop Voting and mark an early ballot, often avoiding the crowds and lines familiar to Election Day. There are three One-Stop Voting Sites in Beaufort County, open at various times:

Washington - Board of Elections office, 1308 Highland Drive, Suite 104

Mondays - Fridays, October 14 - 29, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday, October 30, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Aurora - Richland Senior Center, 102 S. 5th St. (the old Southern Bank)

Tuesday, October 19, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday, October 26, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday, October 30, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Belhaven - Belhaven City Courtroom, 213 E. Main St.

Tuesday, October 19, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday, October 26, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday, October 30, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    To register to vote at any One-Stop Site, a citizen must provide proof of residency by showing the elections official an appropriate form of identification with the citizen's current name and current address. Those who are already registered may also update their address and change vital information in an existing registration record at any One-Stop Site.

    Acceptable forms of identification for voter registration include:

•  A North Carolina driver's license with current address
•  A utility bill with name and current address
•  A telephone or mobile phone bill
•  An electric or gas bill
•  A cable television bill
•  A water or sewage bill
•  A passport
•  A government-issued photo ID
•  U.S. military ID
•  A license to hunt, fish, own a gun, etc.
•  A property or other tax bill
•  Automotive or vehicle registration
•  Certified documentation of naturalization
•  A public housing or Social Service Agency document
•  A check, invoice, or letter from a government agency
•  A student photo ID along with a document from the school showing the student's name and current address
•  A paycheck or paycheck stub from an employer or a W-2 statement, or
•  A bank statement or bank-issued credit card statement
