Bedsole resigns as CEO of Beaufort County Medical Center
Author: Brandia Deatherage | Published: June 30th, 2010
As fear over Beaufort County Medical Center's financial situation nears its crescendo, the BCMC Chief Executive Officer Bill Bedsole resigns after nine years as CEO to "pursue other opportunities," according to a 6:06 p.m. e-mail from BCMC Director of Marketing Pam Shadle.
Though BCMC Board of Trustees Chairman Sandy Hardy is out of the country, according to Shadle, he was able to leave or make a statement after accepting Bedsole's resignation:
We appreciate Mr. Bedsoles dedication and service to our hospital and the health system and wish him well in his future endeavors, quoted Shadle in the e-mail. In the interim, the remaining members of our Administrative Team, with guidance from the Board of Trustees, will continue leading the daily operations of the health system and meeting our mission of providing safe, high quality health care to our patients.
Bedsole also served as BCMC Chief Financial Officer for a number of the 23 total years he was employed by the health system, according to Shadle.
Shadle said that the BCMC Board of Trustees will likely go into closed session under the auspices of the BCMC Executive Committee at tomorrow's special meeting, to be held at 1 p.m., called by BCMC Board of Trustees Vice Chairperson Alice Mills Sadler, to begin discussion regarding Bedsole's replacement.
Shadle said that though she may have seen it coming, "Its always a surprise when your CEO steps down."
